Reflection 2 : WordPress Development.

In this class I have learnt about the process of developing a wordpress. Like any other software development, there are several stages or cycles or procedures to produce a good website. In educational web development, Instructional Design Model (ID Model) were used as a framework to develop instructional materials. ID Model is more like a guideline where we able to develop the materials specifications that meets the instructional goals. There are several ID Model that often used in developing instructional materials that is ADDIE, Hannafin and Peck, Dick and Carey, Waterfall and ASSURE Model.

ADDIE Model is the most basic and generic of all the ID Models. It consists of 5 phases that is :

  1. A (Analysis)
  2. D (Design)
  3. D (Development)
  4.  (Implementation)
  5. E (Evaluation)

Hannafin & Peck Model

Hannafin & Peck Model is the simplest model that consists only 3 phases that is :

Dick & Carey Model

Dick and Carey model is a systematic cycle that consists of 9 iterative cycle and a summative evaluation of the whole effectiveness of the instruction.

Waterfall Model

Waterfall model is also known as a linear sequential life cycle model. In this model, each phase must be completed before proceed to the next phase.

ASSURE model is a procedural guide for planning and delivering instruction that integrates technology and media into teaching process. This model consists of 6 phase/steps :

  1. A (Analyse Learners)
  2. S (State Objectives)
  3. S (Select Media and Materials)
  4. U (Utilize Media and Materials)
  5. R (Require Learner Participant)
  6. E (Evaluate and Revise)

There are many other models that were used to develop instructional materials.  All those models have their own strengths and weaknesses.  Despite of all the different number of steps and phases, basically all those model consists of 5 general steps that is :

  1. Analysis
  2. Design
  3. Development
  4. Implementation
  5. Evaluation

In developing an educational website, validity of the website is very important. Website validity means that you must get the approval of your website from the ‘expert’. There are two types of website validation that is content validation and design validation. The purpose of content validation is to make sure that the content that we put in the website are correct and according to the syllabus of the subject. Content validation are done by the expert in the field. For example, to validate content for science educational website, the person who do the content validation are the science teachers.

Other validation is the design validation. There are 3 elements in design validation that is interface, interaction, and information. Design validation are done to make sure that interface, interaction, and information in the website are appropriate and suitable to the targeted user/students. The expert that suitable to do the design validation are the web designers, graphic designers, and other people that have knowledge about designs and education.

There is so much more to learn on the process of developing a good educational website. Until next week’s post.. ^_^
